Getting Veldar
How do I install Veldar?
Veldar is in beta, so you install it through Apple's TestFlight app. It is not on the App Store yet.
- You need an iPhone with iOS 17 or later.
- Install TestFlight from the App Store. It is a free app made by Apple.
- On your iPhone, open this link: https://testflight.apple.com/join/gZSBm5eD
- Tap Accept if TestFlight asks, then tap Install.
- Open Veldar from your Home Screen.
If the link doesn't work, check that you opened it on your iPhone, not on a computer. If TestFlight says the beta isn't accepting testers, email us.
Beta builds stop working after 90 days. When a newer build is available, TestFlight shows an Update button next to Veldar.
How do I send feedback about a bug?
In the TestFlight app, tap Veldar, then tap Send Beta Feedback. TestFlight lets you attach a screenshot. You can also email hello@getveldar.com. Tell us what you did, what you expected, what happened instead, your iPhone model and your iOS version. Please don't include private details such as other people's tasks or grades.
Do I need an account?
No. Tasks, planning, reminders, insights and your streak all work without an account, and nothing leaves your iPhone. You only need an account for the streak leaderboard and for Circle.
Does Veldar work offline?
Yes. Only signing in, the leaderboard and Circle need an internet connection.
What happens on first launch?
A short intro (about a minute) explains the idea. It asks for an optional first name, the time you are usually free to work from, and your bedtime hour. On the last page you can allow Calendar and Notifications, both optional. A switch called "Try with demo data" is off by default. If you switch it on, Veldar fills the app with a made-up semester so you can see how things work. Remove it any time in You > Privacy & learning > Remove demo data. You can replay the intro from You > Replay intro. It does not change your tasks.
Reality Check
What is Reality Check?
It compares the plan you made with how much you can realistically get done. Open the Today tab and tap the Reality check card. The card carries a tag: "Over by …", "Tight" or "Realistic". The link at the bottom says "See what to move" or "See the breakdown".
The full screen shows three numbers:
- PLANNED is the time your plan sets aside, measured by your own estimates.
- LIKELY NEEDED is how long that work will probably take you. Veldar corrects your estimates using how long similar tasks took you before. Until you have finished some tasks, it uses starting averages. They become yours as you finish tasks.
- REALISTIC is how much work the day can actually hold, based on your free hours, your calendar events and how much you really get done on busy days.
When the plan is too big, Reality Check shows "What I'd change" with concrete changes. Each has a button, such as Move it, Trim it or Start earlier. Tap one to apply it and watch the numbers update. Tap Done to leave, or Rebuild my day to open Plan my day. Nothing changes until you tap a button.
These are suggestions based on your own history. They can be wrong, and they are not a promise that you will finish on time.
What if I fall behind?
When you are behind schedule, Today shows "Your schedule is now … behind" with a Fix it button. It opens Schedule Rescue. Tap Fix my schedule and Veldar rebuilds the rest of your day, with deadlines first. Tap Undo to put everything back.
Reminders and notifications
My reminders or notifications don't arrive. What should I check?
Reminders are scheduled on your iPhone itself, so they don't need internet. Go through this list:
- Allow notifications for Veldar. Open You > Reminders. The line under the button says "Status: allowed", "denied" or "not asked yet". Tap Allow notifications if it is not allowed. If it says denied, open your iPhone's Settings, tap Notifications, tap Veldar, and switch on Allow Notifications.
- Check the reminder level. Each task has a level: None, Minimal, Medium, High or Extreme. With None, that task sends no notifications. Set the default for new tasks in You > Reminders, and change one task in its own settings.
- Check the type. A reminder (not a task) only sends a notification if you gave it a time. A reminder with no time, or with a day only, appears in the app and does not send a notification.
- Finished or past? Finished tasks stop sending notifications. A time that has already passed doesn't send one either.
- Check Focus and Do Not Disturb. An iPhone Focus, Do Not Disturb or Notification Summary can hide or delay notifications. Check them in the iPhone's Settings.
- Smart reminders. If "Smart reminders" is on (You > Reminders), Veldar sends last-minute reminders earlier when it sees you tend to ignore them. So a reminder can come earlier than you expect.
- Streak reminders are separate. They appear only on a day when opening Veldar would still save your streak, at most three a day. You can turn them off in You > Reminders > Streak reminders.
- Circle alerts for helpers can't arrive while Veldar is closed. This version of Veldar can't send push notifications. Open the Circle tab or pull down to refresh.
A notification can show the task title, your time estimate and, for a simple reminder, your note. Depending on your iPhone's settings it can show on the Lock Screen.
The focus timer isn't on my Lock Screen.
When you start a focus block, Veldar shows a timer on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. If you don't see it, open your iPhone's Settings, tap Veldar, and make sure Live Activities are on.
Signing in
My sign-in code isn't arriving.
Veldar emails you a one-time code. It usually arrives within a minute.
- Check your Junk or Spam folder. Look for an email about a Veldar sign-in code.
- Wait for the countdown. Under the code box, the button says "Send again in …s" for about 30 seconds. When it says Send a new code, tap it. Asking again too fast can show "Too many codes were requested. Wait a few minutes, then try again." If you see that, wait a few minutes.
- Check the address. The code screen says "Veldar sent a code to …". If the address is wrong, tap Use a different email.
- Use the newest code. A code works once and expires after a while. If it says "That code isn't right, or it has expired", ask for a new one.
- Try an address you can open on your phone. Some school and work email systems block automatic emails.
If the app says "Online features aren't set up", this build has no online service, and sign-in isn't available. If it says the server can only email its own team, codes can't be sent to your address yet. In both cases, email us.
There is no password. Each time you sign in you get a new code. Asking for a code for an address that has no account yet sets one up, even if you never type the code in. If that was a mistake, email hello@getveldar.com and we will delete it.
Why does Veldar ask for my birth month and year?
The first time you sign in on an iPhone, a screen called "Before you sign in" asks you to choose your birth month and year, then tap Continue. Online accounts are only for people who are 13 or older. Veldar checks your answer on your iPhone, keeps only the result, and never saves or sends your birth month or year. Once you have passed, it doesn't ask again on that iPhone.
If your answer says you are under 13, you'll see "Thanks for telling us" and a Close button. Nothing is sent, and sign-in stays closed on that iPhone for 24 hours. Everything else in Veldar works without an account. If you picked the wrong year by mistake, the screen asks again after the 24 hours. Please answer truthfully. If you're stuck, email hello@getveldar.com.
Do I have to choose a username?
Yes, for the leaderboard and for Circle. It is a public nickname of 3 to 20 letters, numbers or underscores. Don't use your real name or your email. You can change it in You > Veldar account > Username.
Circle
How does Circle work?
Circle lets a parent, counselor, tutor, teacher, academic coach, mentor or someone you trust help you. You stay in charge: nothing is shared until you accept, and you decide exactly what each person can do.
If you are the student and want to invite someone:
- Open the Circle tab and tap Invite someone. (You need to be signed in. If you aren't, Veldar first asks for your birth month and year, then for your email, then for a username.)
- Pick who you are inviting, then tap Continue.
- Switch each permission on or off, then tap Create invite code.
- Share the code (Copy code, Share, or let them scan the QR code with their iPhone camera). The code looks like VELDAR-7K4P9 and works for 48 hours. It appears under "Waiting to be used" until someone uses it.
- When the person enters the code, a New request card appears in Circle. It shows exactly what they could see and do. Tap Accept or Decline.
If you are the person helping:
- Open the Circle tab, find "People you help", and tap Enter a code.
- Type the code and the name you want them to see ("Your name"), then tap Send request.
- Wait for them to accept. Veldar checks when you open it or pull down to refresh, so there is no alert when they accept.
The permissions are: View tasks, Add tasks, Add reminders, Suggest schedule changes, See when things are finished, Important alerts and View grades. Grades are never on by default for anyone. A helper never sees your notes, calendar events or location.
Veldar can't hide single items from a helper who can view tasks. If you don't want someone to see your list, turn off View tasks for them or remove them.
How do I stop sharing or remove someone?
- Open the Circle tab.
- Tap the person's name.
- Tap Remove [name]'s access, then confirm with Remove access.
This ends the connection right away. The person can't see anything new, and what was waiting for them is deleted. If nobody is left who can see your list, the copy of your list on our service is deleted too. To share less instead of nothing, switch off individual permissions on the same screen. Each change is sent a moment after you flip the switch.
Anything a person has already seen stays seen. They could remember or copy it.
Important: signing out does not end your Circle connections. Neither does resetting the app or deleting it. If you sign out or delete the app, the last copy of your list stays on our service for the people you connected, until you remove them or delete your account. Remove people before you sign out, or delete your account, which removes every connection.
If you help someone and want to stop, open their name under "People you help" and tap Stop helping [name] (or Cancel request if they haven't accepted).
The streak and the leaderboard
How does the streak work?
A day counts when you open Veldar. If you skip a whole day, the count starts again at 1. Tap the flame on the Today tab, next to Search, to see your streak and the last 7 days. The streak stays on your iPhone unless you join the leaderboard.
How do I join or leave the leaderboard?
It is off by default. Open You > Veldar account and use the switch Show me on the leaderboard, or tap the flame, then Leaderboard. Other people then see your username and your days in a row, nothing else. Switch it off to be taken off the board. Turn it off before you sign out, because signing out does not hide you.
Your data
How do I delete my account and my online data?
- Open the You tab.
- Tap Veldar account.
- Tap Delete my account, then confirm with Delete account.
This removes your account, your username, your leaderboard standing, your Circle connections and anything else stored online for you. Ordinary logs and backups at our providers can remain for a short time (see the Privacy Policy). It can't be undone. Your tasks, history and settings stay on your iPhone.
If you don't see the Delete my account button (for example because you haven't chosen a username yet), pick a username first and it appears. You can also email hello@getveldar.com from the address you signed up with and ask us to delete it.
Delete your account before you delete the app. Deleting the app does not delete an online account, and iOS can leave your sign-in in the Keychain until Veldar is installed again.
How do I delete what's on my phone?
- A learning feature: You > Privacy & learning, then switch it off.
- Forget what Veldar has learned: You > Privacy & learning > Forget what I've learned. Your tasks stay.
- Finished tasks and history: You > Privacy & learning > Delete finished tasks and history.
- Everything: You > Privacy & learning > Reset the whole app, then Reset everything. This removes your tasks, classes and learned patterns from this iPhone and puts your settings back to their defaults. It keeps your first name. It does not delete an online account, sign you out, end your Circle connections or change the leaderboard.
- The whole app: delete Veldar from your Home Screen. Sign out or delete your online account first.
Can I get a copy of my data?
Email hello@getveldar.com from the address you signed up with and ask for a copy of what we hold online. Everything you entered on your iPhone is already on your iPhone.
What does Veldar do with my calendar?
Veldar only reads your calendar so it can plan around your events. It never writes to it. Events are not uploaded and no helper can see them. Turn it on or off in You > Calendars. See the Privacy Policy for the full detail.
Reporting a problem
How do I report an abusive username or misuse of Circle?
Email hello@getveldar.com. Tell us the exact username, where you saw it (the leaderboard or Circle) and what is wrong, and attach a screenshot if you can. We can take a name off the leaderboard, ask the person to choose another, or close an account that breaks the Terms of Use. Please don't send tasks, grades or other private details.
If someone is in danger, contact your local emergency services. Veldar is not an emergency service and nobody watches it around the clock.
Something else is wrong.
Email hello@getveldar.com with what happened and a screenshot if possible. Mention your iPhone model and your iOS version.
Age requirement
Online accounts (the leaderboard and Circle) are only for people who are 13 or older. Before you can sign in, Veldar asks for your birth month and year and checks them on your iPhone. Veldar works without an account at any age, and nothing leaves the phone. A child under 13 must not create an account. If you think a child under 13 has one, email hello@getveldar.com and we will delete it. In some countries the minimum age to agree to online services is higher than 13. If that applies to you, ask a parent or guardian.
